County governments across the 47 counties should give employment opportunities to all without discrimination, an MP has said.
Limuru MP Kiragu Chege lamented high rate of discrimination and ethnicity in county governments.
He said ethnicity has made it impossible for many qualified people to get employment in county governments.
“It is the dream of every parent that his child gets employed and what we are seeing now is really bad. Anyone can work anywhere in the country,” he said Monday in Limuru.
A report released by National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) last week showed that ethnicity in 32 counties has made it impossible for those not born in the regions to get employment.
The report commissioned by NCIC four years ago revealed that in some of the counties, 97% of the employees were born in the area contrary to Section 65 of the County Government Act (2012) which stipulates 70 per cent of jobs should be given to locals and 30 per cent be reserved for experts from outside the county.
The MP urged also residents who are affected by ongoing road expansion projects in the area to give dialogue a chance to sort out their grievances.
He said issues they have raised should not be allowed to stall the projects as they can be solved.
“We have the 104 ABC-Limuru road and Gikambura-Ndeiya road which are under construction; valuation will be done and let us not stall the projects because of things which we can solve.
