Two men kill Limuru chief in his house
A 50-year-old chief was shot dead at his home in Kabuku village, Limuru constituency, on Tuesday night.
It was reported that Peter Gitau arrived at home at 8pm and fed his dogs, then heard strangers knocking at the gate.
According to the chief’s younger brother Karanja Kairu, their brother Charles Ngigi asked the two men at the gate what they wanted and they said they wanted to talk to the chief. They were shown to his house.
“After they entered his house, we only heard three gun shots and we were shocked. We didn’t suspect it was inside our compound because we live just near the main road to Kabuku trading centre,” Kairu said.
“This is not the first time people have come to ask for the chief. He is an administrator and he handles a lot of people’s cases and issues every day,” he added.
The two suspects shot him once in the neck and two times in the stomach in his living room.
The motive was not immediately known.
Kiambu county police commander James Mugera told journalists the two men swiftly walked out and fled on foot, leaving the family screaming for help.
The chief was rushed to Tigoni Subcounty Hospital and died while receiving treatment.
Police said they are investigating.
However, sources allege one of the murderers is a resident who was recently released from prison, but police dismissed this claim.
Former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi described Gitau as a peace-loving administrator.
“We want police to conduct investigations and arrest the suspects. I’m sure they will,” he said.
Mwathi said Gitau was promoted from an assistant chief to chief during his time as the area MP due to his good work and good relations with people.
Area deputy county commissioner David Kiprop described Gitau as a hardworking and dedicated administrator.
“He is my personal friend, leave alone working together. He served people with a lot of diligence and dedication, as if they were his brothers and sisters. We have lost a great officer,” he said.
