Two weeks ago, President Trump made a round of calls to various African leaders including Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari and South Africa’s Jacob Zuma.
He did not call Uhuru despite the US asserting its influence in East Africa through Kenya.
The Kenyan Embassy in the United States was also blamed for the oversight as the ambassador, Robinson Njeru Githae, was busy in Kenya campaigning for an elective seat in Kirinyaga county.
However, Mark Bellamy, the former US ambassador to Kenya said the oversight was not serious as Trump was still formulating his policy for Africa.

“Mr Trump’s Africa team is not yet in place. The president was likely urged by advisers to reach out to some prominent figures in Africa, so he called the heads
of the two largest states,” said Bellamy.
