The committee investigating Supreme Court judge, Philip Tunoi, has found him culpable in the Sh 200 million bribery allegations facing him.

Tunoi is accused of receiving a Sh 200 million bribe from Nairobi Governor, Dr Evans Kidero, to influence an election petition case filed by Kabete MP, Ferdinand Waititu, who was vying for Nairobi Governor then.

According to a report handed over to Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga, Kidero gave Tunoi a bribe of Sh 200 million which was to be shared among four Supreme Court judges.

The four judges are Justices Tunoi, Smokin Wanjala, Jacktone Wanjala and Mohamed Ibrahim.

The committee also found that Tunoi bought a 180-acre piece of land in Uasin Gishu County few weeks after receiving Kidero’s bribe.

The committee which was chaired by Prof Margaret Kobia also found that Tunoi went for a holiday in Europe, few days after receiving the bribe.

Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga, has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to form a tribunal to investigate Tunoi because the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is satisfied that Tunoi received the bribe.

Here is a statement from JSC.
