Alcohol Worth Millions Destroyed In Kayole ‘Illicit Brew’ Crack Down
Alcohol estimated to be worth millions of shillings has been destroyed in Kayole estate, Nairobi, after area residents moved to get rid of illicit drinks.
Embakasi Central MP John Ndirangu led police and locals in a crackdown that nabbed thousands of litres of ‘killer brew’ from a distilling factory in the area.
However, liqour store owners condemned what they termed as blanket raids as all joints, even those operating legally, were broken into.
“Police are raiding all shops, it doesn’t seem to matter whether they are licensed or not. They are even breaking into shops that are closed. Once they get in, they just pour out everything except beers,” a liquor store manager in Kayole us.
This comes barely a week after Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu led his constituents in destroying alcoholic drinks, a move that was termed as ‘hooliganism’ by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
The Government revoked all licences for second generation alcoholic drinks across the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta demanded immediate action to curb the trade in illicit brew.
