See The Obama Hairdo That Is Making Kisumu Women Look Younger!
Salonists say the word on the lips of every woman who steps into their premises in the town is the “Obama style” that is clearly riding on the wave ofPresident Obama’s visit to the country next week on July 24.
Obama’s blood father, Obama Senior, comes from the lakeside community.
The hairstyle is achieved when a small portion of hair is joined with pieces of braids to form one long strand that runs from the tip of the forehead to the back of the head, one stylist interviewed by Daily Nation journalists explained.
It is then done repeatedly to form a pattern of about 20 such strands.
Also known as the Ghanaian style, and common across Africa, the hairstyle has nothing to do with the way Obama makes his hair, or that of his wife Michelle.
“Generally, the style is liked because it makes one appear younger. It doesn’t require daily styling hence maintenance is easy. One only needs to spray it regularly. They also don’t smell since they have spaces for aeration,” Cecilia Awino, a salonist is quoted as saying by the newspaper.“Most customers had at some point ditched Obama lines which they considered simple and monotonous. But it’s now the trending hairdo ahead of US’s President’s visit,” another hairstylist said.
The Obama visit to Kenya has not been without its sideshows as University of Nairobi students warned that they will commit suicide if he does not visit the institution.
Obama gave a public lecture at the university’s Taifa Hall while he was a US congressman.
There is also a planned protest by 5,000 naked men and women to voice concerns against sentiments that he may speak on gay issues.
Some Kenyan men have even expressed interest in marrying his daughterswith a Maasai moran proposing to give 50 cows to marry Malia!
It is the first time that the country is hosting a US sitting president and clearly these hilarious moments can only be attributed to the joy from that fact.
